Requirements for energy and nutrients of a child, who has only just learned to walk, are much different compared to an adult. Toddlers need up to two times more of nutrients compared to an adult. The stomach of a toddler is about 5 times smaller than an adult’s stomach. This means that with every spoon a child has to eat significantly more (micro) nutrients than an adult. Based on the world's nutrition recommendations (per kg body weight), a toddler requires nearly:

  • 5.5 times more iron
  • 4 times more calcium
  • 3 times more essential fatty acids
  • 7 times more vitamin D
